Mission Statement

The Smarty Pants Theater Company LLC, is dedicated to enhancing lives through the art of improvisational theater. Methods of the performing arts are integrated into educational and corporate systems by the use of “challenge-by-choice” techniques and strategies that focus on creative thinking, pattern establishment, problem solving, teamwork and communication skills. Participation in a Smarty Pants performance or workshop will result in a higher understanding of both verbal and non-verbal communication, increasing effectiveness, awareness and efficiency in the classroom, workplace and life.

History

The Smarty Pants Theater Company was founded in 2001 in Dayton, Ohio. Through the combination of outdoor educational teaching methods and improvisational theater training techniques, a new style of facilitation was developed resulting in a highly effective form of experiential education.

Since its inception, Smarty Pants has performed in venues across the country and facilitated workshops for a number of organizations. Each year they entertain thousands of audience members. In 2008 they were voted the best comedy group in the city of Cincinnati.

Through the use of improvisational comedy, the company educates and entertains while creating an interactive experience that is tailored to each individual audience. Experience group leaders use unique experiential methods of facilitation that focus on the three key elements of communications: listen, accept and cooperate. They create a “safe-zone” that breaks down internal and external barriers allowing people to feel comfortable as they participate in a series of highly interactive activities. The art of improvisation and acting are a part of everyday life and can be applied to vocation, education, athletics, leadership and countless other social and professional applications and interactions.
